              Course Learning Outcomes*            At the end of this course, students are able to:

                                                   1.  Initiate and analyze an engineering survey project.
                                                   2.  Set-up and familiarize with various survey instruments.
                                                   3.  Apply  various  surveying  principle  in  solving  engineering  survey
                                                      problems.
                                                   4.  Display team work and leadership capabilities
                                                   5.  Demonstrate good written and oral communication skills

              Transferable Skills                  Handling equipment, data interpretation and generate plan skills
              Synopsis of Course Contents          The survey camp will include most of the following tasks:
                                                   1.  Basic  surveying  tasks  i.e  taping,  angles,  differential  leveling  and
                                                      instrument set-up,
                                                   2.  Establish the elevations of points relative to known benchmarks,
                                                   3.  Measure and adjust a closed traverse,
                                                   4.  Draw a contour map of a given area based on your own measured
                                                      data,
                                                   5.  Road alignment or excavation measurements (slope staking, area and
                                                      volume calculations),
                                                   6.  Layout exercise (buildings etc.)
                                                   Parties (groups) consisting of six (seven) members  will be established by
                                                   camp staff after the introductory briefing. The instruments used will include
                                                   electronic  total  stations,  theodolites,  and  automatic  levels.  Computers
                                                   equipped  with  a  spreadsheet  program  will  be  available  for  traverse
                                                   calculations. The task for each group will cover the exercises listed above.
