                                                   1. Analyze states of static equilibrium for particles/rigid bodies subjected
                                                      to forces/moments in two/three dimensions.
                                                   2. Assess internal forces in simple pin-jointed trusses, beams and frames
including axial force, bending moment and shearing force diagrams.
                                                   3. Determine properties of cross-sections (including centroids and mo-
                                                      ment of inertia).
                                                   4. Evaluate distributed forces in beams, frictions and its applications, and
                                                      solving practical problems.

Synopsis of Course Contents The course aims at introducing the student to the field of mechanical engi-
neering – solid mechanics. The student will learn to analyze forces acting
on particles and rigid bodies in static equilibrium which involve problems in
2D and 3D. The students will be exposed to conceptualize, design, build,
and test a load-bearing device or structure.
