EIH2002          GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT
            3 Credits

            Pre-requisite    None

            Learning         At the end of the course, students are able to:
            Outcomes
                             1.  Identify the importance of gender role in the development process.
                             2.  Discuss gender theory and development.
                             3.  Examine the changing role of women in the economy.
                             4.  Assess development policy, problems and practices related to gender.

            Synopsis         The primary goal of the course is to develop students’ ability to understand various gender
                             dimensions of economic development with the aim that students will gain a fundamental
                             theoretical  understanding  of  economic  development  from  a  gender  perspective.  The
                             course should also improve the students’ knowledge about policy and practical from the
                             field  of  economic  development.  Having  completed  the  course,  students  should  have
                             attained gender aware literacy and be able to critically examine economic development
                             from a gender perspective.

            EIH2003          MICROFINANCE AND SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
            3 Credits

            Learning         At the end of the course, students are able to:
            Outcomes
                             1.  Explain the concepts of microfinance and social enterprises.
                             2.  Discuss the differences between microfinance in the formal and informal sector.
                             3.  Apply basic microcredit financial management.

            Synopsis         The course will discuss rural development theory and poverty problems in the rural sector.
                             It  will  also  discuss  the  relationship  between  capital  and  economic  development,  and
                             identify  the  structure  o  non-formal  economics  and  non-formal  credit.  Basic  financial
                             management technique for small businesses will also be thought.
