PROLOGUE
By Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amer Siddiq Amer Nordin,
Director, Universiti Malaya Community Engagement Centre (UMCares)
I
n this time of pressing environmental challenges, the collaboration between
Universiti Malaya (UM) and the AEON Environmental Foundation (AEF) through the
Asian Students Environmental Platform (ASEP) stands as a beacon of hope. Over
the past decade, this partnership has empowered students across Asia to become
environmental leaders, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to address
critical issues like climate action, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable
development.
At UM, sustainability is integral to our mission, and ASEP has provided an invaluable
platform for students to turn learning into action, inspiring positive change within
their communities. The impact of these young leaders, working across borders to
promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), exemplifies the power of
education and collaboration.
This book reflects on the achievements of this partnership and serves as a call to
action for continued innovation and cooperation in the face of evolving
environmental challenges. I extend my deepest gratitude to AEF, project members,
students, and all those who contributed to this journey. Together, we can continue
to drive meaningful progress toward a sustainable future.
