DATO’ JALIL MUHAMAD
BSC IN APPLIED GEOLOGY, 2002
SENIOR GENERAL MANAGER
GEOSCIENCE & PETROLEUM ENGINEERING
I currently lead the Geoscience & Petroleum Engineering
department, driving business in the oil and gas segment. I
am also the Value Assurance technical lead to ensure that
the technicalities meet industrial standards.
As a business and technical lead, my passion is to grow Geoscience business as part of the industrial leader
in Malaysia. The most impactful experience I had as a university student was when I was elected as the
President of 9th college. My stint as president nurtured my leadership skills and taught me how to work with
people from different backgrounds with different ideologies and ideas. I am inspired by the quote, “Present
is the key from the past”, a geologist's tagline. Whatever happens or is present today, has a story from the
past.

UMW HOLDINGS BHD
I oversee and manage a team comprising 30 HR personnel in driving strategic
key HR initiatives at Group level including developing HR policies, driving a
culture of high performance as well as championing HR digitisation and
digitalisation. I am passionate about nurturing young talents for the future
through innovative learning and development interventions, mentoring and
coaching programmes. The most impactful experience in university for me
was the learning culture and easy access to lectures/professors which made
the experience truly memorable.
CATHARINE KHO
BSC IN STATISTICS, 2009
ECONOMIST
ASEAN+3 MACROECONOMICS RESEARCH OFFICE , S'PORE
Currently, I conduct macroeconomic surveillance and thematic research on key
economic issues affecting the ASEAN+3 ( China, Korea and Japan) region. I also
support policy assessment and advisory to national authorities in member
countries. .
I am passionate about supporting women labour force participation. As a new full-time working mother, I
experienced first-hand the struggle in balancing a career and a family. My personal dream is to see society
discuss career and family as complementarities and not trade-offs. Being a member of the UM English
debate team gave me lifelong skills, friends and memories. The wide-range of topics taught me to be
resourceful in searching for information, to empathise with unfamiliar needs and most importantly, to be
creative in proposing feasible solutions. I also learnt to present my thoughts succinctly and to argue
positions convincingly. A Professor once told me not to worry about knowing everything. He emphasised
that graduating is the start of a new chapter in life and as long as you are willing to learn, you will be fine.
