INSTITUTE OF MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES

The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (ISM) was established as a
department in the Faculty of Science when the University of Malaya was
founded in Kuala Lumpur in 1959. It has grown into three branches, i.e.,
pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics.
For the 2020/2021 session, ISM offers the following four first degree
programs:

 Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
 Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics
 Bachelor of Science in Statistics
 Bachelor of Actuarial Science

The four Bachelor of Science programs are set up to provide more
opportunities for an undergraduate to major in the field of mathematics
according to his or her interests. All these programs will assist to fulfill the
vacancies of skilled workforce in science and technology in the public and
private sectors in line with Malaysia's aspiration to become a developed
nation.
