        Geographical Information System (GIS)
                                                           Environmental Studies has been established at the
                                                           University of Malaya since 1991 under the administration
                                                           of the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts and Social
                                                           Sciences. Over the 30 years the course has been introduced, it
                                                           has matured in producing graduates who are knowledgeable,
                                                           creative, and competitive to face challenges apart from being
                                                           able to understand a sustainable environmental concept.

                                                           The Environmental Studies Program offers a bachelor’s
                                                           degree program, known as Bachelor of Environmental
                                                           Studies, while Graduate Studies involves a Master of Arts
                                                           (MA) and Doctor  of Philosophy (Ph.D.) by research at
                                                           the higher degree level. Programs at the bachelor’s level
                                                           cover various types of sub-specialties including Physical
                                                           and Human Environment, Global Environmental Change,
                                                           Geographic   Information  Systems,   Remote   Sensing,
                                                           Environmental Law, Environmental Impact Assessment
                                                           (EIA), Biogeography, Cartography, Sustainability Issues,
                                                           Environmental Challenges, and Issues, and so on. Meanwhile,
                                                           MA and Ph.D. students can research under the supervision of
                                                           lecturers according to their respective fields of expertise.

                                                           Aligned with the introduction of the new curriculum for the
                                                           Environmental Studies program, students would be able
                                                           to increase their proficiencies in adopting technology in
                                                           the learning and research processes. In addition, industrial
                                                           training, student exchange programs, and new courses that
                                                           have been introduced can enhance the competitiveness
                                                           and marketability of the students as well as opening new
                                                           opportunities for students after graduation.
