P. 6
Foreword
The Impact-Oriented Interdisciplinary Research Grant (IIRG) was launched in 2019 to drive impact-oriented research within Universiti
Malaya. Researchers need to think about the impact their research can have in areas such as culture and heritage, economics, the
environment, social advancement, and health and well-being, as well as on policy changes, and technological developments. To make a
difference in these areas and to related stakeholders which include industry and communities, an interdisciplinary approach to research
has the potential provide more impactful solutions to issues and problems. The projects featured in this flipbook, which are from the first
cycle of IIRG, exemplify how researchers from different areas of expertise can work together to offer solutions in various areas.
Kudos to Universiti Malaya’s Research Cluster for showcasing six of the IIRG projects. I am confident that these projects will inspire
researchers to engage with relevant stakeholders with a view to creating an impact through an interdisciplinary research approach.
