OUR PROGRAMMES The postgraduate degree programmes at the

Faculty of Languages and Linguistics cater for
students who have the drive and ambition to
obtain a postgraduate qualification in in the fields
of English Language and Linguistics. The faculty
has an active research culture that fosters a strong
learning climate that not only encourages students
to work closely with each other and their supervisors
in joint projects, but also to take charge of their own
learning and research progress.

MASTER OF ENGLISH
LANGUAGE STUDIES The Master of English Language Studies (MELS)
focuses on the description and explanation of the
English language, including its structure, functions
and social contexts of use. The programme will
enable you to develop your own research interest in
areas associated with English Language Studies.

MASTER OF ARTS
(LINGUISTICS) The MA in Linguistics aims to give you a general

foundation in the central areas of theoretical and
applied linguistics, while at the same time allowing
you to develop your own particular areas of interest.

DOCTOR OF
PHILOSOPHY The PhD by research in Linguistics programme
is designed to appeal to a wide audience with
interests in various areas of research within
linguistics. The PhD programme will give you
practical training in linguistics analyses ensuring
that you will be able to perform original research in
the field of linguistics.
