Accessibility and Universal Design T
Course (AUDT)
The AUDT initiative designed to empower PWDs across ASEAN to become certified access inspectors for buildings at
public area. The main objective of this programme is to train PWDs from ASEAN member countries to acquire practical
skills and technical knowledge in conducting access audits and applying universal design principles.

It is a 3week fulltime, intensive training course that emphasises accessibility policies, implementation mechanisms,
and advocacy. It adopts handson learning approach that combines theory, field practice, and reallife case studies

relevant to ASEAN’s diverse built environments.
Targeting around 15 to 20 participants from across the ASEAN region, the programme equips participants with the
necessary knowledge and skills to become competent access inspectors and advocates for inclusive environment.
The course integrates the study ofpolicies, implementation, and advocacy with technical skills, allowing participants
to develop a holistic understanding of inclusion in both policy and practice. They also benefited from the guidance of
experts and resource persons from various ASEAN countries, including professionals with lived experience of
disability.
The training emphasises the importance of advocacy, auditing, and collaboration with government bodies to align
participants’ practices with official access audit programmes and national standards. Upon completion, participants
are expected to apply the knowledge gained in respective home countries to improve accessibility standards of their
communities.
