Master of Sustainability Science is the only
Sustainability MSc Program in Malaysia that is
based in the Faculty of Science and tackles
explicitly the role of science and technology
for sustainable development in a holistic
manner, through the following outcomes:

• Able to expose students to the scientific,
technological, philosophical, socio-economic,
and ethical understandings of the potential
and challenges of sustainable development .
• Able to create a new generation of science-
based disciplinary practitioners adept at
creating science and technology solutions for
sustainable development - in line with our
motto to humanize science.

• Able to empower students to develop
holistic solutions to achieve the United
Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN
SDG) that are suitable for their respective
local contexts through a unique training that
combines science and technology studies
with arts and humanities. The program is also
closely associated with the UM Sustainability
and Development Centre (UMSDC) – which
can provide broader exposure to the
students and opportunities to volunteer in
sustainability-related activities, within and
beyond the campus. Our department's
tagline is "Humanising Science" .
