               About The department

           The Department of Indian Studies (DIS) at Universiti Malaya,
           established  in  1956  under  the  Faculty  of  Arts  and  Social
           Sciences,  has  been  dedicated  to  teaching,  research,
           publications,  and  community  consultancy  services.  Evolving
           in  line  with  National  Education  Transformation,  the  DIS
           incorporates  21st  Century  teaching  methods,  fostering
           immersive  learning  experiences  through  futuristic  learning
           spaces. DIS courses are designed to prepare undergraduates
           for diverse careers in the public and private sectors, including
           various  government  ministries  and  agencies  such  as
           Information, Communications and Multimedia, Home Affairs,
           Foreign  Affairs,  Culture  and  Community,  Youth  and  Sports,
           Education,  Agriculture,  among  others.  The  Bachelor  of
           Literature in Indian Studies program offered by DIS focuses
           on Tamilology and Indology, covering literature from the past
           to the present, media, and contemporary needs (Tamilology
           taught in Tamil). Additionally, it provides insights into Indian
           religion, socio-cultural aspects, the Indian community's socio-
           economic  landscape,  and  the  political,  economic,  and
           administrative  development  of  Indians  (Indology  taught  in
           Bahasa  Malaysia  &  English).  DIS  facilitates  interdisciplinary
           studies for students to explore diverse fields.
