GENERAL INFORMATION
Rules & Regulations
The rules and regulations that binds all the academic programme offered are being constantly
updated from time to time. Students are advised to refer to the University of Malaya (First
Degree Studies) Rules 2019 and University of Malaya (First Degree Studies) Regulations
2019 in the University website under the Student Portal (MyUM) for details and latest
updates pertaining to their programme of study.
Categories of Students Are Not Allowed to Register
students with an outstanding fees with the University at Semester II/II, /or do not comply with
the payment schedule;
students who did register any courses for previos semester without withdrawing officially;
students who are no longer active such as Failed Out, expired candidacy and disciplinary
action (suspended) cases;
students who have not fulfilled Malaysian University English Test (MUET) requirement (for
Malaysian citizens only);
student who have yet to fulfill the Course and Teaching Evaluation for each semester.
Attendance in Class
A student is required to attend all classes. A student who does not attend any one of the
classes is required to immediately inform the lecturer concerned on his absence with the
relevant supporting documents. It shall be the responsibility of the lecturer concerned to inform
students of the consequences of the non-attendance in class and to keep a record of class
attendance.
Termination of Programme of Study
On the basis of medical grounds
A student whose withdrawal from a semester has been approved on medical grounds for two
(2) consecutive semesters can be terminated from his programme of study upon the
recommendation of a Doctor of the Student Health Clinic or a Government Hospital or a
Government Hospital or the University of Malaya Medical Centre after the student’s case has
been reviewed by the doctor concerned in the following semester.
On the basis of psychological/medical psychiatry grounds
A student whose withdrawal from a semester has been approved on psychological/medical
psychiatry grounds and who did not sit for the final examinations for four Normal Semesters
and two Special Semesters consecutively can be terminated from the programme of study
upon the recommendation of the doctor/specialist concerned.
