             Course Learning Outcomes*              At the end of the course, students are able to:

                                                    1.  Identify the main and important design aspects and requirements for
                                                        prestressed concrete.
                                                    2.  Apply  the  principles  of  structural  mechanics  to  compute  suitable
                                                        prestressing  force  and  eccentricity  for  design  of  simply  supported
                                                        flexural members
                                                    3.  Employ  the  concepts  of  kern  of  section  and  pressure  line  to
                                                        determine a suitable cable profile
                                                    4.  Recognize the influence of prestress losses and calculate its effects
                                                        on the design.
                                                    5.  Evaluate the ultimate strength of prestressed sections and employ it
                                                        as a design check.
                                                    6.  Synthesize all the components of flexural prestressed member design
                                                        to prepare and produce a complete set of  calculations and  working

             Synopsis of Course Contents            Prestressing  concepts,  structural  applications.  Material  requirements,
                                                    prestressing  methods  and  system.  Limit  state  design,  serviceability
                                                    classifications,  stress  limitations.  Design  of  prestressed  beam.  Cable
                                                    profile. Prestress losses. Ultimate limit strength check.
