Course Learning Outcomes* At the end of this course, students are able to:
1. Review Elasticity theory and apply matrix approach to define stress
and strain tensors; Define general form of Hooke’s Law and
Constitutive equation of stress and strain in three dimensional
structural system.
2. Derive the matrix stiffness coefficients and apply the use of matrix
stiffness method on plane frame, truss and continuous beams
members.
3. Implementation of FEA computer software application incorporating
the basic principles of finite element analysis (FEA).
4. Formulate the effect of axial forces on frame members and derive
formulation for stability functions.
5. Derive formulation for dynamics systems and apply them to civil and
structural applications.
6. Apply the use of yield line theory in the analysis of reinforced concrete
slabs
Transferable Skills Analytical, computer modelling and simulation
