Title Advanced Microprocessor/Signal
Pre-requisite KEEE 2233
Student Learning Time (SLT) 120 hours
Credit 3
Learning Outcomes i. Describe the pin layout of the MC68000 and MC68020 and the
operations of the asynchronous bus for read/write cycles of both mi-
croprocessors.
ii. Design solutions to programs based on the instruction sets of
both microprocessors.
iii. Explain the operation of bus arbitration, synchronous bus, inter-
rupts and exception processing of MC68000.
iv. Design the hardware circuitry to implement word/longword from
aligned and misaligned addresses in MC68020.
Synopsis This course details the architecture, software and interfacing tech-
niques used in the design of MC68000 and MC68020 microproces-
sors. The course begins with the architecture of the MC68000. The
details of the instruction set, asynchronous bus, bus arbitration, inter-
rupt, system control, and synchronous bus are covered. The
MC68020 discusses the operation of the cache memory and the asy-
chronous bus. The execution of a word or longword on an odd ad-
dress is discussed to show the versatility of the microprocessor. The
software aspects of the MC68000 are also covered.
Assessment 40 % Continuous Assessments
60 % Final Examination
