            Synopsis

This course is aimed at exposing students to the philosophy and basic concepts as applied in research
as an important process for the development of the Islamic education discipline. The focus of discussion in the
course covers basic theories and methods of qualitative and quantitative research in education, highlighting the
various related research designs, such as survey, experimental, case studies, action research, historiography,
and so forth. Students will also be trained to analyze the use of these approaches and principles in relation to
research studies in Islamic education that have been conducted. Students will apply knowledge gained through
the preparation of research proposals and micro research will be conducted for fulfilling the course
requirements. The discussions will also include the traditional perspectives in research to ensure that the
philosophical framework of research in Islam is not neglected in the performance of contemporary research.
