Message from the Head of Department

Dr. Roza Hazli Zakaria

The department of economics is the biggest department in the faculty – with fourteen (14)

Academic staff. We have one esteemed professor who are well known in his fields, Profesor
Dr Tan Eu Chye. We also have with us four (4) associate professors, ten (10) senior lecturers

and two (2) lecturers.

All department members are committed to the vision and mission of the faculty, that is to

realize the vision of the University to be an education and research centre of excellence for

knowledge creation and dissemination through teaching, learning and research in the fields of
economics. The department anchors most of the core courses for the Bachelor of Economics

and offer taught postgraduate programme, Masters of Economics.

Members of the departments are actively pursuing research in their fields of interest that
covers the important areas of the ever growing discipline of economics. The area of

specialization of our department members ranges from the conventional economics such as

monetary and financial economics, international trade and international finance to those
emerging fields such as environmental economics, behavioral economics, economics of

social security and household finance. In addition to that, the department members are also
actively involved in research collaborations both at the national and international level.
