Message from the Head of Department
Associate Professor Dr. Yeoh Kok Kheng
The Department of Administrative Studies and Politics is committed to excellence in teaching
and research. The objective is to empower students with the latest knowledge and skills by
providing them with the best teaching Faculty and excellent research and development
environment. Most importantly, we aim to provide students with practical and analytical
skills required for managing challenges confronting public and private sector as well as non-
governmental organisations. New challenges need innovative approach. Hence, to prepare
students for the challenging environment, the Department provides insight into the new role
of public administration, private sector, business enterprises and civil society organisations in
managing public affairs for development.
The Department comprises 13 members with expertise in various areas of Public
Administration, Politics, Public Policy, Human Resource Management and Urban
Management. Members of the Department have strong research and teaching links with
various organisations as well as provide consultancy services to both private and public
agencies at the local and international level.
The Department offers core and elective courses in Public Administration, Political Science,
Human Resource Management and Urban Management to the Bachelor of Economics
programme. At the postgraduate level, it offers Postgraduate Diploma in Public
Administration (DPPA), Master of Public Administration by research and coursework and a
Doctoral Degree programme. DPPA is a programme dedicated to train the cadet of
Administrative and Diplomatic Service. Upon graduation, the cadet will be placed in
government ministries and agencies locally and abroad. We are truly honoured to be given
