Sub-Programmes
EVALUATION OF MICROALGAE FOR MICROBIALLY INDUCED CARBONATE PRECIPITATION
(MICP) FOR SUSTAINABLE BIOCEMENT PRODUCTION
Final product: Based on the scientific understanding and optimisation of the calcification potential of
various microalgae to develop the next generation of MICP technology.
OPTIMISATION OF BIOLOGICALLY INDUCED INDUSTRIAL EFFLUENT TREATMENT EFFICIENCY
AND IDENTIFICATION OF ALGAL GROWTH POTENTIAL
Final product:
o Sustainable algae-bioremediation system that removes carbon dioxide (algal photosynthesis).
o Bio converts nutrients in wastewater to be used as the biomass for bio concrete production.
o The bioremediation method developed is environmentally sustainable without the use of expensive physio-
chemical technologies.
EVALUATION OF BIOCEMENT'S POTENTIAL APPLICATION IN CONCRETE REPLACEMENT AND
REHABILITATION
Final product: The optimised replacement condition for conventional concrete based on the
mechanical and microstructural properties of the algal-bio concrete.
