Course Code VIB3015
Course Title APPLIED EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY
Credit 3
Medium of Instruction English Language
Course Pre-requisite(s)/ VIB2006 Nutrition and Energy Balance in Exercise and Sports
Minimum Requirement(s)
Learning Outcomes At the end of the course, students are able to:
1. Elaborate the biochemical principles related to enzyme and metabolic energy
production from lactate and protein sources.
2. Apply the metabolic reactions in different exercise intensity and duration.
3. Explain the physiological and biomechanical mechanisms that limits exercise.
Synopsis of Course Contents The course emphasizes a new concept in exercise biochemistry based on the latest
findings in the field. Words such as genomics, proteomics is commonly used today to
describe the functional cells, protein expression as well as a detailed analysis of body
metabolism. The course also provides an understanding of the connection between
metabolism toward sports performance by explaining the biochemical processes specific
to different sports. Students will also be able to understand how biochemical processes
that determine the metabolic response to exercise is influenced by adaptation training.
