One day, his mother breathed her last while he
was taking his examinations in India. She had
been suffering from abdomen cancer without
informing anyone. This unfortunate incident
terrified him because he lost his spiritual
support, his mother. He did not have the peace
of mind to continue his studies although he was
halfway through. He returned to Malaya to
attend the prayers for his late mother, and then, Dr Jaswant Singh attended the Mesyuarat Agung
decided to keep his promise to his mother to Persatuan Doktor-Doktor Pergigian Malaysia 1965.

The pain of losing his mother was clear. When was the last time we spent time with our mom, letting her
know how fortunate we are to have a strong support in our lives? It taught us to count our blessings by
appreciating those we have in our life because we never know when they will not be around anymore.
Now that we have listened to his story, this was a hurdle that we ourselves would not be able to overcome
if we were standing in his shoes.

In 1965, Dr Jaswant Singh successfully obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Surgery. This was the
beginning of an illustrious career. It gave him great satisfaction that he had fulfilled his promise to his
parents despite the challenges he had faced along his journey to becoming a dental surgeon.
