               Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
Your Royal Highness Tuanku Sultan of Perak and the Chancellor of Universiti
               Malaya,

Your Excellency Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of
Singapore and Chancellor of the National University of Singapore

Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Singapore,Professor Tan Eng Chye,

               Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
                                                                                                                      189
               1. Good evening. It is a privilege to welcome you to this dinner, in celebration of not
only the celebration of golf but also of the enduring bonds between Universiti
Malaya and the National University of Singapore.
               2. I express my deepest gratitude to Your Royal Highness, the Chancellor of
Universiti Malaya, for your unwavering support and patronage in guiding UM to
                   its present and future heights.
               3. To His Excellency Mr Tharman, your presence here is highly appreciated for your
wisdom and foresight in shaping Singapore and NUS.
               4. Malaysia and Singapore’s destinies are tied in ways few neighbours in the world
can claim. We are connected by geography, but more importantly, by shared roots
of history and unmatched brotherhood.UM and NUS are the custodians of this
                   legacy.
               5. What gives universities their unique power is that we do not compete for resources
in the same way states or corporations do. Instead, we compete by collaborating,
and we grow stronger by sharing.
               6. We are not just contributing to our universities’ prestige. We are anchoring the
long-term prosperity of our two nations. Knowledge, in this sense, is not just
enlightenment. It is a moral responsibility to future generations and the fate of
                   humanity.
               7. This responsibility extends beyond our borders. As Malaysia chairs ASEAN this
year, we face a regional context marked by uncertainty — from climate stress to
                   rising security challenges.
