10. In enhancing the efficacy of the semiconductor industry, and to establish a new
strategic presence on campus, where unique incentivising advantages and factors
of the institution provide a new strategic industry collaboration, it has been agreed
in principle that the stage of the semiconductor industry and its direct possible
affiliation will involve high end chips and IC design and packaging, which will be
based on the mutually beneficial factor of inviting top semiconductor institutions
to set up the packaging and assembly lines here, while benefitting the campus
community especially our students, from internship to full time employment
opportunities upon graduation.
11. The entire research ecosystem and value chain of the university will be
comprehensively boosted, leveraging on the key strength and niche areas of both
the private industry, and also our own offerings of expertise, human capital and
the extensive networking leverage.
12. The inclusion of top semiconductor powerhouses and the dawn of the new era
of high chip designs will create new spinoff positive impact to the university and
the nation, in line with the national agenda of empowering the semiconductor
industry, and the National Semiconductor Strategy.
13. This new venture will continue to explore new models and expand the traditional
limit of industry-academic collaboration, and in charting a new way forward in
elevating the synergy of the best of the industry and the whole of ecosystem
dynamics.
14. The outcomes and the impact over the long term will be profound and
multifaceted, in which it will benefit the long term goal of bolstering the future
of our human capital advancement drive especially in the high skilled and high
technology sectors, and in injecting new knowledge and expertise in related fields
and boosting the capacity and reach of our research ecosystem.

15. We have also witnessed the inaugural UM UG iFEST, a pioneering feat that is
of immense pride to all of us, especially it being the ultimate showcase of the
students’ academic and research pride, one that is of great significance not only
to the students but to the entire campus community and the nation.
