MIC2004: Principles in Pharmacology and Toxicology (Core: 3 credits)

               Learning Outcomes
               1. Describe the concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, principles of
toxicology, and principles of anticancer and antimicrobial agents.
               2. Interpret the effects of drugs on the autonomic nervous system; their mechanisms
of action; adverse effects and therapeutic uses.
               3. Interpret concepts and research techniques in pharmacokinetics,
                   pharmacodynamics and toxicology.

               Course Synopsis
This course focuses on the general principles of pharmacokinetics &
pharmacodynamics, pharmacological basis for the use of drugs
(parasympathomimetic, sympathomimetic and neuromuscular systems), factors
affecting drug response, general principles of toxicology, various clinical
manifestations to different toxic compounds, general mechanisms of toxicity, the toxic
actions of metals and non-metals, evaluation of toxicity and principles of anticancer
               and antimicrobial agents.
