Reconnecting with Nature:
MOMENTUS Exhibition 2023

The Department of Media and Communication Studies
organized its annual event, MOMENTUS, on June 6th and 7th,
2023, at Dataran Sastera, Lecture Hall B, and The Cube,
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. MOMENTUS, which
started in 2016, showcases creative projects by students from
the Master of Media Studies (MMS) and Bachelor of Media
Studies programs at the Department of Media and
Communication Studies, FASS. Now in its 8th year, the event
has become a platform to bring the students, the industry,
and the community together through the exhibition of Dean of FSSS and the HoD with the Committee of Momentus 2023
creative products like books, documentaries, short films, and
campaigns.
The theme of this year’s exhibition was returning to one's
roots and bridging the gap between humankind and nature.
More than 100 students, supervised by 11 lecturers
presented their projects at eleven exhibition booths. The two-
day event also included 10 external examiners who evaluated
the creative media projects produced by Master of Media
Studies students. Professor Datuk Dr. Danny Wong Tze-ken,
the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Dean with the assesors of creative media project of Momentus 2023
inaugurated the event.
Each creative project showed the relationship between the
two entities and show the various detrimental ways that
humans can affect nature. Whether it’s about rivers, the
ocean, the trees or the mountains, each creative project will
reflect the ways that humankind can rebuild their existing
relationship with mother nature. Students use this theme as
the basis of their creative project, each of them using various
media genres to represent and express the idea of
reconnecting with nature. They use the strengths of each
genre to provide various outlooks of the theme. Momentus 2023 participants
Gourmet-themed Literature Fortnight at the
Department of Chinese Studies

The Literature Fortnight is a highly anticipated annual event Streets – Stories about Food in Kuching”, and Dr. Teong

Gourmet, A Fortnight of Literature.” The programme included
a debate, two movie screening sessions, a Chinese tea
ceremony class, a reading session, and three talks centered
on the theme of food. The movies - Ang Lee’s “Eat Drink Man
Woman”, and Taiwanese comedy “Zone Pro Site: The
Moveable Feast” directed by Chen Yu-hsun were screened
along with informative and entertaining talks by speakers like
Jamie Ong who spoke on “Imagining Food and Beverages-
Gourmet and Creative Writing”, Cai Yu on “Stove Fire on the
