It was the end of an era at the Indian Studies Department as it bid farewell to Dr. Manimaran
Subramaniam, the Head of the Department, a remarkable academic and a valuable colleague.
Dr. Manimaran's journey in academia has been nothing short of extraordinary. His tenure as the head
of the Indian Studies Department has been marked by a commitment to excellence by fostering an
environment of intellectual curiosity and pursuit of academic rigor. He inspired countless students to
delve deeper into the rich tapestry of Indian culture and history. His teaching style combined
profound insights with a genuine concern for the holistic development of his students. Young
colleagues describe him as a mentor who instilled a sense of responsibility and a commitment to
excellence. Under his guidance, the Indian Studies Department flourished, becoming a beacon of
academic brilliance and cultural understanding. Beyond the confines of the classroom, Dr. Manimaran
engaged in community outreach programs, leveraging his expertise to bridge gaps between the
academic and the society and foster cultural understanding.
As we bid farewell to Dr. Manimaran with a heavy heart, we also celebrate a remarkable career that has
shaped countless minds and contributed significantly to the cultural tapestry of Malaysia. We extend
our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Manimaran and wish him a retirement as rich and fulfilling as the legacy
he leaves behind.
