Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
General Information *Note
Preference will be given to applicants having a Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA 3.0 and above or its
The Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) is conducted purely based on individual equivalent.
Applicants having a Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA of 3.7 and above can apply directly for the
supervised research and the candidates will carry out research in their Doctoral of Philosophy (PhD)
areas of specialisation. In most fields, the Masters is considered the
pinnacle of academic achievement and the Master of Philosophy is Mode of Study
testament to the candidate’s academic excellence and ability. At the end of
the MPhil study, a dissertation must be submitted and upon a successful Research
defence of the dissertation, the candidate will be awarded a Master degree.
Duration of Study
Admission Requirements *Minimum: 2 Semesters
*Maximum: 8 Semesters
To be admitted to a Master ‘s programme, applicants are required to have Programme Structure
a completed and recognised degree in a relevant discipline and to have
obtained a better than average cumulative grade point average (CGPA). The Master of Philosophy Programme leads to the submission of a thesis.
The minimum requirements for admission into the MPhil programme are : Candidates are required to take Research Methodology course in the first
A Bachelor’s Degree (Hons.) or its equivalent in the related field*; or year of study.
Other qualifications approved by the University Senate. Intake
International applicants are required to have:
• At least IELTS Band 5 (Academic) or TOEFL score of 550 (paper based) / Application and admission are open throughout the year.
213 (computer based) / 80 (Internet based) if their first degree is from a
university where English is not the medium of instruction. *Note
The minimum and maximum duration of a programme of study according to the mode of study
may vary from the stated above and is subjected to the approval by the Ministry of Education
