CSES RESEARCH PROGRAMME HANDBOOK 2022/2023 ACADEMIC SESSION

A candidate of this programme will be required to take up the Research Methodology Course (see
below for course synopsis and learning outcomes). In addition, candidates will also learn a variety
               of skills such as: -

Computer skill (ability to use computer softwares and hardwares)
Analytical skills (skills of gathering data, analysing it, interpreting it and presenting it)
Academic writing skills (ability to convey ideas and information clearly via writing)
Creative presentation skills (ability to present research information using creative tools)

Course requirement for this programme: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY (VMX7001)

Synopsis of Course Contents The aim of this course is to develop students’ knowledge
and understanding of the role and conduct of quantitative,
qualitative, and mixed methods research in planning. The
course equips students with the skills to review and
choose methodologically sound research based on reliable
sources. Students develop the skills to recognise and
reflect on the strengths and limitations of different
research methodologies, understand the links between
theory and practice, critically assess research, and address
ethical issues. How to manage and analyse data (including
computer assisted), and how to write up and present
findings are core components of this course.

Course Learning Outcomes (1) Testing a hypothesis, a research problem and related
                                                      questions in proposing a research.
                                                  (2) Determining appropriate research methodologies to
be used for research in respective research fields.

                                                  (3) Assessing the procedure of collecting, measuring, and
                                                      analysing data accurately.
