LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

All students must be sufficiently competent in English. International students must possess at
least a band 5.5 for IELTS or a score of 550 for paper-based total, a score of 213 for computer-
based total or a score of 80 for internet-based total for TOEFL if they obtained their Bachelor’s
degree from a university in which the medium of instruction is a language other than English, or

Pass an English proficiency test approved by the University. UM offers a course leading to
proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia which international students are required to attend before the
degree is conferred.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

(i) Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree with CGPA of 3.0 and above in a relevant programme of
study

(ii) Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree with CGPA of 2.7 to 2.99 may be considered if they fulfil
at least one of the following criteria:
A. has work experience in related fields; or
B. has publications in related fields; or
C. is a scholarship recipient; or
D. a graduate of the University of Malaya
E. a government agency employee

(iii) Applicants with a Bachelor's degree with CGPA of 2.5 to 2.69 may be considered if they fulfill
at least two of the criteria in (i) (A) to (D) above
