Course Learning Outcomes* By the end of this course, students are able to:
1. Derive mathematical models, transfer functions, electrical, mechanical
and electrochemical time differential systems.
2. Describe quantitatively the transient response of first- and second-order
system from the transfer function.
3. Determine the stability of a system represented as a transfer function
and analyze the steady-state error for a unity feedback system.
4. Use the root locus to design cascade compensators to improve both the
steady-state error and the transient response.
Transferable Skills Critical thinking and problem solving skills
Life long learning and information management
Synopsis of Course Contents To introduce the student the basic theory and practice of control engineer-
ing. The main goal is to enable the student to analyse and design control
systems in frequency domain representation. Students will become familiar
with analytical and will be exposed extensively to the use of computers for
analysis and design of control systems.
Learning Strategies (lecture, tutorial, work- Lecture, Tutorial, CL
shop, discussion, etc.)
Assessment Weightage* Continuous assessment : 40%
(Assignments and Tests)
Final Examination : 60%
Methodologies for Feedback on Perfor- Marks for continuous assessment and final examination grades will be post-
mance ed on the student notice board.
