     Academic Writing Technicalities Workshop for

                                         History Students

                                                               Technical  points  were  gathered  from  students  prior  to  the
                                                               workshop   and   addressed   during   the   sessions   in   a   series
                                                               of points and Q&A session.


                                                               Academic   writing   is   a   potent   tool   for   intellectual
                                                               expression   and   professional   development,   and   UM
                                                               students were encouraged to seek available opportunities
                                                               to   hone   their   writing   skills   including   participating   in
                                                               relevant   workshops   and   contributing   articles   to   internal
                                                               and external platforms such as department bulletins.


                                                               According  to  the  Chief  of  PSUM,  Mr  Rizqullah  Al  Bariq  bin
                                                                                                                were
                                                               Azmi,   the   students   expressed   that   such   workshops
                                                               crucial   to   their   academic   journey   and   expressed   an
                                                               interest   in   a   follow-up   program   in   the   near   future.   The
                                                               workshop ended at 12 noon.

    On   Saturday,   the   3rd   of   April   2021,   Dr   Nur   Dayana
    Mohamed Ariffin from the Department of History spent the
    morning   giving   tips   and   coaching   students   on   the
    technicalities of academic writing.

    The   workshop   titled   ‘Kursus   Pendedahan   Teknikal
    Kursus   Pelajar   Jabatan   Sejarah,   Universiti   Malaya’   was
    attended   by   57   students   from   the   history   undergraduate
    program.   Students   had   to   pay   RM2   for   participation.   The
    money   collected   will   be   used   by   the   organizers,   the
    Persatuan   Sejarah   UM   (PSUM),   for   student   aid   or   to   fund
    future programs.

    The   workshop,   held   from   9   am   to   11   am,   was   conducted
    online   via   Microsoft   Teams,   and   followed   by   a   session
    spent  on  quizzing  students  on  writing  skills  and  historical
    trivia  using  Google  Form.  In  the  spirit  of  camaraderie  and
    learning,   the   committee   took   the   initiative   to   announce
    and  reward  the  winners.  The  five  winners  with  the  highest
    scores   were   Nur   Alyaa   Syuhaidah   binti   Ahmad   Kamil,
    Darwisy   Haikal   bin   Rasip,   Rizqullah   Al   Bariq   bin   Azmi,
    Nurul  Hidayah  binti  Abu  Bakar  and  Nur  Syazana  binti  Mat
    Radzay.
