         Pengajian Alam Sekitar telah ditubuhkan di Universiti Malaya sejak tahun 1991 di bawah pentadbiran Jabatan Geografi, Fakulti Sastera
      dan Sains Sosial. Sepanjang tempoh tiga puluh satu tahun program ini ditubuhkan, ia semakin matang dalam melahirkan graduan yang

      berilmu,  kreatif  dan  berdaya  saing  serta  mampu  untuk  berhadapan  dengan  persekitaran  yang  semakin  mencabar  selain  daripada
      berupaya  memahami,  mengaplikasi  dan  mengadaptasi  pengetahuan  khususnya  dalam  konteks  alam  sekitar  mampan.  Program

      Pengajian Alam Sekitar menawarkan program Sarjana Muda iaitu Ijazah Sarjana Muda Pengajian Alam Sekitar dan Pengajian Siswazah
      melibatkan Sarjana Sastera (MA) dan Doktor Falsafah (PhD) secara penyelidikan di peringkat Ijazah Tinggi. Program di peringkat Sarjana

      Muda merangkumi pelbagai sub-pengkhususan iaitu Alam Sekitar Fizikal dan Manusia, Perubahan Alam Sekitar Global, Sistem Informasi
      Geografi, Penderiaan Jauh, Perundangan Alam Sekitar, Penilaian Impak Alam Sekitar (EIA), Biogeografi, Kartografi, Isu Kelestarian, Isu

      dan  Cabaran  Alam  Sekitar  dan  sebagainya.  Manakala  bagi  pelajar  MA  dan  Ph.D  pula  boleh  menjalankan  penyelidikan  di  bawah
      penyeliaan pensyarah mengikut kepakaran bidang masing-masing. Sejajar dengan ini juga, pelaksanaan kurikulum baharu bagi program

      Pengajian Alam Sekitar serta penilaian setiap lima tahun sekali dapat mempertingkatkan dan memperkembangkan proses pengajaran
      dan pembelajaran serta penyelidikan sejajar dengan keperluan pasaran dan keadaan semasa. Selain itu, latihan ilmiah, latihan industri,

      program  pertukaran  pelajar  dan  kursus-kursus  baru  yang  diperkenalkan  mampu  mempertingkatkan  semangat  daya  saing  dan
      kebolehpasaran di kalangan pelajar serta membuka peluang yang baru untuk diceburi oleh para pelajar setelah tamat pengajian dalam

      tempoh yang ditetapkan.



            The  program  of  Environmental  Studies  has  been  established  at  the  University  of  Malaya  in  1991  under  the  administration  of  the
      Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Throughout the thirty-one years since its establishment, it has matured in

      producing knowledgeable, creative and competitive graduates who can deal with an increasingly challenging environment in addition to

      being able to understand, apply and adapt knowledge, especially in the context of a sustainable environment. The Environmental Studies
      Program offers a Bachelor’s course, namely the Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies and Graduate Studies involving a Master of Arts

      (MA)  and  Doctor  of  Philosophy  (PhD)  by  research  at  the  Higher  Degree  level.  Programs  at  the  Bachelor’s  level  include  various  sub-
      specialisations  such  as  the  Physical  and  Human  Environment,  Global  Environmental  Change,  Geographical  Information  Systems,  Remote

      Sensing,  Environmental  Legislation,  Environmental  Impact  Assessment  (EIA),  Biogeography,  Cartography,  Sustainability  Issues,  Issues  and
      Environmental  Challenges.  Meanwhile,  MA  and  PhD  students  can  conduct  research  under  the  supervision  of  lecturers  according  to  their

      respective  fields  of  expertise.  In  line  with  this,  the  implementation  of  a  new  curriculum  for  the  Environmental  Studies  program  and
      evaluation every five years can improve and develop the teaching and learning process as well as research in line with market needs and

      current conditions. In addition, scientific training, industrial training, student exchange programs and new courses introduced can enhance
      the  spirit  of  competitiveness  and  marketability  among  students  besides  providing  new  opportunities  for  students  to  venture  into  after

      completing their studies within the stipulated period.
