ACADEMIC ADVISOR SYSTEM
Functions of an Academic Advisor
1. The Dean of the Faculty shall ensure that a Panel of Academic Advisors are appointed from
among the lecturers to guide the students in planning their academic programme of study.
2. The Academic Advisors are responsible to:-
a. help students choose courses and the number of credits students will take before the
start of the semester; and/or
b. guide students in overcoming problems related to learning, if any, based on their
academic performance.
3. The Dean of the Faculty shall be responsible to decide how the Academic Advisor system is
implemented in their respective Faculties.
REGISTRATION
Attendance in Class
a) Students are required to attend all classes and participate in all teaching and learning activities.
Students who do not attend any class is required to immediately inform the lecturer concerned
about their absence and provide relevant supporting documents. Lecturers are responsible to
inform students of the consequences of non-attendance in class and to keep a record of class
attendance.
b) Lecturers are responsible to record student attendance for every teaching and learning activity.
c) Lecturers are required to inform students about the consequences non-attendance in class and
keep records of these announcements.
Termination from Programme of Study
(a) Medical grounds
A student whose withdrawal from a semester has been approved on medical grounds for
two (2) consecutive semesters can be terminated from his programme of study upon the
recommendation of a Doctor of the Student Health Clinic or a Government Hospital or a
Government Hospital or the University of Malaya Medical Centre after the student’s case
has been reviewed by the doctor concerned in the following semester.
(b) Psychological grounds
A student whose withdrawal from a semester has been approved on psychological
grounds and who did not sit for the final examination for four Normal Semesters and two
Special Semesters consecutively can be terminated from the programme of study upon
the recommendation of the doctor/specialist concerned.
