Why did you choose this programme?

I was first introduced to geology when attending an
event organized by Petronas at Malaysian Maritime
Academy (ALAM) in form four. I found the sharing
by two geologists on the oil and gas industry
amazing and fun. I thought their job scopes are
unique and amusing simultaneously, as they can
commute to their office in KLCC and rush to the oil
rig by helicopter.

From that moment, I knew that I wanted to be a geologist. I then pursued my dream,
enrolled in this fun program, and loved it to the core. As time passed by, I acquired
insights from various industries and learned how to venture into various careers other
than a geologist. I am now working as a GIS Analyst, data analyst & reviewer.

The programme has prepared me with training in essential software in this field.
Thanks to one of the courses in the program, I was trained in ArcGIS software.
Fortunately, these skill sets helped me be selected for a big project in my company. In
addition, I am also thankful for the nature of this programme, as it provided me with a
wide range of opportunities for internship placement. Rather than limiting myself to
one specific field, as geology is famous for the oil and gas industry, I underwent
industrial training in engineering geology.

Many modules in this programme require us to participate in fieldwork. As for me, this
is the highlight of the programme. Fieldwork brings a lot of exciting and adventurous
memories. Travelling on road trips with all my batchmates while searching for
knowledge together is one of the precious experiences of my undergraduate years.
One thing I like about this program is how this program covers almost everything we
need to learn in geology. The courses are all important and fun at the same time, which
could assist us with better knowledge and skills for future endeavours.
