English Carnival 2023 was the first mega programme ever to
be organised together by students from the Faculty of Arts
and Social Science (FASS), the Faculty of Languages and
Linguistics (FLL), and also the Faculty of Education (FEdu).
Students from three different clubs, namely the Literary and
Dramatic Association (LiDra), Youth of English Language
and Linguistics (YELL), and the TESL Secretariat came
together to plan this project in order to promote the English
language and Literature in English.
The English Carnival 2023 was held on the 10th and 11th of
June 2023 at Dewan Tunku Canselor (DTC), Universiti Watching the short animated movie of the Pahang Malay folklore,
Malaya. The programme was officiated by the deans from Walinong Sari
FASS and FLL, Datuk Professor Dr. Danny Wong Tze Ken,
and Associate Professor Dr. Surinderpal Kaur.
One of the aims of this project was to enhance the skill sets
that have been acquired by the students to equip them for
their careers in the future. English Carnival 2023 was a
platform to showcase students’ abilities as well as widen
their networks with external parties, allowing them to learn
more and also increase their experience.
This project proved to be successful although it is the first
programme ever to be held in collaboration by the three

CPR and AED Course: Collaboration with St
John Malaysia
On 24th June 2023, Welfare and Well-being division under By Darwisy Haikal, Programme Director,
Global Network Club organized a course on CPR & AED in Global Network Club
collaboration with St John Ambulance, Malaysia. The
objective of this event is to expose the participants to the
importance of CPR and AED and to learn the basics,
theoretically and practically. The programme educated
participants in the application of AED combined with
ordinary CPR besides other Basic Life Support Topics.
The event had theoretical and practical sessions. In the
theory session, the participants were exposed to the basics
of CPR and AED. In the practical part, the participants were
given an opportunity to perform CPR and AED using the
tools provided. This certificate course should be a crucial
part of life-skills at the university since it trains the
participants to handle the emergency scenarios correctly. In
some medical emergencies, such basic skills can save a life.
