Synopsis of Course This course provides an in-depth assessment of the
Contents security challenges encountered by members of the EU
since the establishment of the European Coal and Steel
Community in 1950, precursor to the European Economic
Community (EEC), the European Community (EC) and the
EU. The key focus is on the way that EU members have
taken on new policy competencies across a range of
areas. The course covers a range of security agenda of the
EU, focusing on issues and problems related to regional
security cooperation. The course also covers the
emergence of non-traditional security issues in the EU
such as environmental and economic security and their
                                               implications.
