Synopsis of Course This course provides an introduction to the study of
Contents societies from the angle of socio-cultural issues that bear
upon – often conflicting – identities. It provides a basis of
the internal structure of the EU and examines
communication and languages, the media, identity, the
labour market, education, equality of gender, etc. within
the context of regional integration and global challenges.
While the focus is on issues today, it provides enough
historical background for a deeper understanding. Since
societies never exist in isolation, the course shows the
different perspectives of Europe and Asia onto each other.
