BACHELOR’S DEGREE CLASSIFICATION
                                             UNDER THE SEMESTER SYSTEM

                    Degree Awarded             CGPA           Intake : Session 2002/2003 onwards
                    Pass With Honours         2.0 < 3.7     The  senate  has  decided  that  a  student
                                                            who  achieve  a  final  CGPA  of  3.7  and
                   Pass With  Honours      3.7 and above  above  is  qualified  for  the  degree  Pass
                    (With Distinction)                      With Honours (With Distinction)



                CGPA : Cumulative Grade Point Average (Maximum = 4.00)

                Remarks :

                 1.  The Marking Scheme as approved by the Senate is applicable to all Bachelor’s
                      degree programme under the Semester System, University of Malaya except for
                      the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery  and the degree of
                      Bachelor of Dental Surgery.

                 2.  According to UM (First Degree Studies) Regulation 2017; Regulation 5(9)

                      Redemption of Course Grade

                       (a)  A  student  may  submit  an  application  to  redeem  a  grade  C-  for  any
                            category of courses subject to the following conditions and approval of the
                            Dean of the Faculty of the programme of the study:

                            (i)   an  application  to  redeem  grade  C-  shall  be  made  within  two  (2)
                                 weeks after the date of the official examination results;
                            (ii)  redemption  may  be  carried  out  through  assignment,  test  or  other
                                 assessment  methods  determined  by  the  examiner  of  the  course
                                 concerned;
                            (iii)  redemption  may  be  done  for  one  (1)  course  only  for  the  semester
                                 concerned;
                            (iv)  the  increase  marks  may  be  given  if  the  student  completed  the
                                 assignment with satisfactory and approved by the course examiner;
                                 and
                            (v)  the course concerned may be redeemed to a grade C only.


                 3.  The degree awarded is based in the final CGPA obtained by a student.  To qualify
                      for the award of an honour’s degree a student must achieve a final CGPA of not
                      less  than  2.0.    The  degree  awarded  with  a  final  CGPA  of  3.7  and  above  is
                      considered equivalent and qualified for Pass Honours (With Distinction).
