Learning At the end of the course, students are able to:
Outcomes
1. describe descriptively and theoretically the existence and growth of urban
areas;
2. explain the role and functions of urban areas as centres of economic
activities; and
3. apply urban economic theories to current urbanization issues.
Synopsis This course discusses the definition of cities and theory behind existence of a
city as well as market forces determining its growth. This course also introduces
the theory of urban land rent and land use. Other issues related to urbanization
like transportation, housing, pollution, social issues, together with ways to
minimized them are also discussed.
