YEAR 2 SEMESTER I (2024/2025)

MIC2001: Genomics and Gene Expression (Core: 3 Credit hours)

               Learning Outcomes

               1. Describe the organization and features of the human genome
               2. Explain the mechanisms of gene expression regulation
               3. Analyse genomics services from various aspects including economics
               4. Identify ethical issues regarding application of genomic technology

               Course Synopsis
Students will learn about the structure of the human genome in detail, including the organization
of genes and non-coding regions. Types of variation and their effect on cellular function will be
discussed. Control of gene expression will be covered to give the students an understanding of
how the cell maintains its function and responds to changes. They will also appraise the genomic
services available locally and internationally. Current ethical issues regarding the use of genomics
               technology will also be discussed.
