In KM we are managing knowledge as intelligence, thinking, learning, comprehension
and as a flow. Thus, we look deeper into human behaviour and culture and how humans
react to the surroundings and certain things like materials, systems, relationships, human
interaction, spaces and the flow of knowledge within these dynamics.
Table 1 will try to show the difference between what IM and KM are managing and the
emphasis.
Then, why is KM so important to us?
Firstly, when one understands that knowledge in essence, then what is one really
managing in a library? The author would like to suggest that one is, actually managing
knowledge as part of human development and learning. In the context of an organisation
it is about managing the knowledge assets of the organisation for the success of the
organisation. In both, knowledge is not managed as a thing. This new perspective will
bring about more opportunities for to grow and be more valuable to society at large.
