In a stable situation, standard processes and procedures are the best KM solutions to
be implemented and should always be followed. As in a stable environment, the same
or better result is expected. This is wherein a library checklist, SOP and guideline for
processing of materials are very useful.
• Enhance Innovation
Collaboration and knowledge sharing are the two important concepts that contribute
to enhancing the stimulation of innovation in an organisation. There is a definite
correlation between knowledge sharing and enhanced performance for the
21
organisation . Not only KM will stimulate innovation that leads to performance, but
also the introduction of innovative KM tools and methods will enhance performance.
• Reusing Ideas, Documents and Expertise
Reusing ideas, documents and expertise are also in a way avoiding the act of
reinventing the wheel that potentially can save time and cost. Effective processes,
methods and documents, and expertise can be replicated through minimising
reworks. The staff could develop a report in a day or shorter since most of the relevant
documents are kept centrally in one place and access is easy. Also, these information
are mostly finished products that anybody could just use with limited editing or
redoing. The staff do not have to reinvent the wheel by having to do the report from
the beginning. Apart from saving time, it is an increase in productivity. Also, being
collaborative in doing the works opens opportunities for further reuse of ideas,
expertise and documents available in the organisation.
Talent Satisfaction
The benefits under employees or talent satisfaction are improved teamwork, increased
motivation, shorter training periods, development of competence, an increase of personal
market value and enhancement of personal knowledge.
• Enhance Culture Change
Two metaphors, ‘two sides of the same coin’ and ’chicken and egg’, aptly describe
the relationship between KM and culture. The right kind of culture like trust,
openness and sharing in place will help stimulate KM and the strategic and successful
implementation of KM will help to enhance the culture of organisation.
