Home of the Bright. Land of the Brave

Di Sini Bermulanya Pintar, Tanah Tumpahnya Berani

intellectualism through our academic and research offerings that have a profound,
meaningful and resonating impact on the community and the people.
               7. It is through this mantra that we will expand our brand and quality into the whole
of Malaysia in all the states and constituencies, and in strategic parts of the world,
without the limitation of our physical location in Kuala Lumpur alone.
               8. The year of 2024 and beyond will bring even greater challenges, from geopolitical
uncertainties to demographic and economic setbacks that will shake the
foundation of higher education and related sectors.
                                                                                           We will not rest on
               9. We are in a precarious position, and we will not have any pause in our momentum to “
comprehensively ensure we are at the leading position in all domains of academia our laurels, and
and research in the country and to project that into the best commanding levels there will be no
                   in the world. more “business
               10. Competition from other institutions and an ever challenging financial and resources as usual”
assurances will mean we will face a deeper abyss if we do not strive together to complacency. Past
overcome future risks and to ensure UM remains on the pinnacle of the country’s systems that have
higher education landscape. failed us will be
               11. We will not rest on our laurels, and there will be no more “business as usual” rectified, and the
complacency. Past systems that have failed us will be rectified, and the root of the root of the issues
issues and problems that have plagued us for years or decades will be tackled.   and problems
               12. If we do not have the unwavering principle and stance in doing what is best for that have plagued
the university and to continue to succumb to our fixed conventional ways, our us for years or
university will remain stagnant and crumble from within. decades will be
               13. I will lead the drive to start an exponential giant leap for UM and for us to be tackled.
the leading mover of the country in charting new frontiers of excellence and in “
creating new hallmarks and cornerstones of success that we all can be proud 3
of, for that is entrenched in our DNA of the best university in the country and a
                   globally renowned institution.
               14. I will need the support and common framework of unity, understanding, and
persistent passion and fire from all of us as one big UM family in seeing this
                   through.
               15. As I have reiterated in all the meetings and engagements with the campus
community ranging from the top management to the  students and staff, past
systems or practices do not dictate our future and certainly do not dictate our
intent to change things for the better. New practices that can solve problems and
bring benefits to the university and the students and our staff must be started
                   now.
               16. For real success to be achieved, a world class and a competent workforce
remains the single most important factor. This includes getting the best talents
and experts in all dimensions to produce the best outcome and productivity in
their respective areas of competency and expertise.
               17. I recognise the need to build and leverage on a durable and competent human
capital pool that will form the backbone of the university. For this, real recognition
based on merit and performance will be the order of the day.
               18. From now onwards, all talents will be duly appreciated and recognised in terms
of pure merit and competency and their historical track record of contributions to
                   the field and the university.
               19. Gone will be the days when staff are promoted due to questionable rationale,
where merit and competency are not taken into account and the factors involved
have always been the notion of seniority or so called “connections to certain
                   groups”.
