Messages of the Vice Chancellor MESSAGES OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR

20. We will not tolerate any staff that has not been serving the hospital and our
patients well.
21. All policies, reminders and warnings to our staff in UM will apply to all of the staff
in PPUM, ensuring that each of our staff will be in the same line of direction and
repercussions.
22. All staff that are not performing to the standards and expectations that are
expected based on pure merit and competence, will not be tolerated, regardless
of which unit, department, centre, faculty, or any other affiliated entities of UM
including PPUM.
23. We are here to lead our nation and serve humanity, and we will need the best from
our human capital to fully recognize the scale of this importance.

I want to share that UM has been chosen as the host for the Amanat Tahun Baru
Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi which will be held on 12 January 2024 (Friday).

It remains an honour, and I want all related departments and staff to give our best in
ensuring this event remains a success.

I also want to share that UM will be the host the prestigious Wacana Pemikir Global
event or Global Intellectual Discourse on 22 January 2024 in which the Prime Minister
will be giving the key address and will be graced by top global experts and speakers
including Professor Jeffrey Sachs and we will have our very own inaugural Malaya
Dialogue which will be geared towards a premier and flagship event that will feature
top global issues and speakers in the future.
These two back-to-back key events are a reflection of our university’s standing and
8 our leadership, and I direct all staff and departments to come together to make these
a resounding success.

24. All staff from all departments or PtJ must contribute towards these two events in
their own way and obligations.
25. As I have made it very clear in my first important message, all units and
departments will work as one, and there is no distinction of work boundaries and
territorial jealousy.
26. I will not tolerate any more issues of finger pointing, blaming other units or
departments, shifting work duties to others, taking care of the work and duties of
one’s own department only, etc.
27. This disease has brought us down for years, and will remain our great Trojan horse
in bringing down the university.
28. Again, the buck stops here and now, and it stops with me.
29. Echoing the Prime Minister, bold, futuristic and speedy reform and transformation
must take place for the good of our nation.

For us in the university, this is the first step in bringing real changes to UM, for the
good of our nation and for the good of humanity.
