Messages of the Vice Chancellor MESSAGES OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR

14. The fourth update is regarding inflow of funds and future site transformation of our
building assets. I want to share the exciting news of the coming transformation
of the old building opposite the Chancellory into Azman Hashim Art Science and
Cultural Centre. It will be a state-of-the-art and modern building that will be the
pride of the university. It will be fully funded by Tan Sri Azman Hashim. We hereby
express our utmost gratitude and appreciation to Tan Sri for his exceptional effort
in contributing to the university on a consistent basis.His dedication and passion
will be cherished always.
15. I also want to share the good news of us receiving a total of RM225.32 million
ringgit in new project funding from the 4 Rolling Plan under the 12 Malaysia

Plan. Of this total, RM96.32 million ringgit for seven projects will go to Universiti
Malaya while RM129 million will go to PPUM. We will ensure that these projects
will churn out the right benefits and impact on the university and the nation.
16. In my Amanat 2024 address, I have outlined a comprehensive strategic direction
and functional and future driven action plans to elevate our university to a whole
new level.
17. Rest assured that all these are already in the implementation pipelines by the
various departments and units, from the 10 new thrust areas to the 50 action
plans and beyond.
18. The identified strategic sectors and key focus areas are in line with the national
and global direction in the next decade and century, and UM will continue to be the
main drive and forerunner of these critical sectors that will define our civilisations
and the future of the country and the region.
19. The new strategic drive ranges from Artificial Intelligence and space science to
the need to defend global peace and stability through international law and a
12 rules-based order.
20. We will continue to advance our niche and key strength areas, and develop and
cultivate new critical sectors outlined to ensure that UM remains the pinnacle of
academic and research eminence.
21. I want to thank all the panellists and the moderators for the three sessions
of the Kupasan, who have covered the Amanat and given their views and
perspectives. Rest assured that we will take all views of the campus community
into consideration.
22. As I have stated, it is a shared journey and we will go through a new chapter of
renewal and rejuvenation together.
I hope that it serves as a new frontier and a new inspiration to all and for all to have a
clear direction on our new strategic pathway ahead.
