                9 APRIL 2024
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and Salam Sejahtera
Eid Mubarak to all of Campus Community

In this festive and meaningful occasion, I offer my sincere Eid greetings to all of you,
as we celebrate the upcoming month of Syawal.

I want to address two main critical points, our readiness to face stiff competition and
challenges of the future and the intent of providing support to our students and staff.

                                     1. The road ahead for the higher education sector and the global front will be
challenging. For that, we need our workforce and students to be ready, resilient
                                         and agile.
                                     2. Our commitment in empowering the support and welfare system to our campus
community, including our staff and students, is unwavering.
                                     3. Speed and efficiency matter, and one cannot be at the expense of the other. Both
are needed at the parallel level for a new thrust forward.
                                     4. I have chaired numerous critical meetings and discussions with different people,
16 from the Board Meeting to various committee and stakeholders meetings on
various issues and occasions, and I have reaffirmed consistent messages.
                                     5. I reiterated the same intent and instruction to all that creativity and innovation,
focusing on the bigger picture and future demands, and the hunger to achieve
more and produce bigger impact are the main yardsticks of our change process.
                                     6. This new approach applies to all domains of the university, from advancing our
research interests and achievements in critical fields to ensuring that our students
are supported in their research and academic journey to fully cultivate their
                                         potential.
                                     7. There will be no more wait and see approach and the right initiative must be taken
                                         to uplift our university.
                                     8. For us to succeed, strategic, fast, and future driven goals and strategies must be
cultivated at the comprehensive university and industry level for a more robust
synergy and capitalisation of strength and resources.
                                     9. I am aware of the conflicting views on the SAPT. Over the years, various
engagement and dialogue sessions have been held with the academic community
                                         regarding the new model.
                                     10. Rest assured that all views, concerns and suggestions have been taken into
                                         consideration.
                                     11. The only intent and objective of the SAPT is to raise the quality, standard and
reputation of our amazing academic and research talent pool, and in turn elevate
the university’s global standing and reputation.
                                     12. UM will always be the nation’s top flagbearer and will continue the unyielding
drive to propel into one of the world’s best. The SAPT is thus needed as the new
standard bearer in ensuring we maintain and consistently raise our bar at the
highest level with no compromise on the quality and standard of our academic
and research outcome that we have been proud of over the decades.
