Message from the Vice Chancellor MESSAGE NO.
Dear Campus Community,
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim
27 MAY 2024
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and Salam Sejahtera
I would like to address four important points in the current development update of the
university.
1. Firstly, our performances in the QS World Rankings by Subject 2023 and the Times
Higher Education Asia Rankings reflect our continuous efforts and determination
to improve and to advance in a consistent manner, the strength and quality of our
institution in the core facets of research and academic excellence.
2. The good showing in the subject rankings in the QS World Subject Rankings is
a testimony to the university’s unyielding and unwavering stance and approach
of elevating the highest standard and quality in a full spectrum of academic and
research excellence.
3. For the QS Rankings by Subject, we have seen significant improvements in Arts
and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, and
Social Sciences and Management.
4. We remain the top domestic institution and we are ranked in Top 200 for all five
broad subject areas in four consecutive years since 2021.
5. A total of 38 subjects were ranked, and we have Pharmacy and Pharmacology 21
as well as Economics and Econometrics breaking into the Top 100, with both
securing their spot as the best in the country.
6. The promising achievements as evident in the QS Rankings are the epitome of the
university’s unwavering intent to maintain and advance its position as the nation’s
best university, and will continue to ensure that both students and the academic
and research fraternity are given the right capacity, support and intellectual
dynamism and expertise.
7. This success of the subject rankings is attributed to the result and hard work of
the entire campus community, especially the academic and research talent pool
and our non-academic workforce that have been working hard with great tenacity
in meeting our internally set Key Performance Indicators.
8. The students complete the success equation by constantly raising the bar in their
learning and skill acquisition processes.
9. However, there is still a lot of room for improvement. There are areas where we
have declined and there are areas where we need to buck up in a comprehensive
and urgent manner.
10. I would like to congratulate and offer my gratitude and appreciation to all those
who have worked hard for us to achieve this success.
11. This includes the whole campus community, from the researchers and academic
community to the supporting and administrative community.
12. Your persistent and tireless efforts have made us all proud and the nation to be
proud. I really hope that we can maintain and elevate our efforts in the future.
13. The second point is regarding the status of the various ongoing development
projects on campus, especially under the Rancangan Malaysia Keduabelas
(RMK12).
14. Various maintenance and new development projects are ongoing, with most being
in line with the timeline set.
