Leading with Purpose
Messages of the Vice Chancellor MESSAGES OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR
44. The welfare needs of the students, whether in services or physical infrastructure
or intellectual development, will continue to be given priority and all departments
are in process of improving the services and infrastructures that will support the
needs of our students.
45. The students will need to get their space, platform, support and guidance provided
by the university and all parties for them to thrive and to develop, both in the realm
of academic and comprehensive leadership and soft skill cultivation.
46. The Student Affairs Division has been initiating various leadership, capacity
building, knowledge and talent cultivation, values-based model advancement and
many other strategic approaches to develop our young talents, and all quarters
must equally be devoted to help and nurture our future leaders.
47. This transcends the Student Affairs Division alone, and it will need to involve all
faculties, residential colleges, departments and campus stakeholders.
48. Fourthly, I am well aware of the recent incidents involving fallen trees and other
hazards posed by recurring freak storms which have posed a risk to our campus
community.
49. The relevant departments led by Jabatan Harta Benda and our Security
Department are on top of things, and they have been responding swiftly to any
damages or incidents to do the necessary repairs and clearings to ensure normal
traffic and normal operational needs.
50. We will also step up our preventive efforts, including periodical checks and audits
on the safety level of our campus including trees and other potential hazards, and
also continue to remain ready and do whatever is necessary to manage these
situations.
24 51. We express our profound thanks and gratitude to the team at JHB, our Security
Department and all other parties who have provided relief support and in ensuring
that the damages and dangers are relieved. They have been working tirelessly and
with dedication in responding to the situations with great efforts and sacrifices.
52. I would also like to remind the campus community to stay vigilant during heavy
downpours and to take necessary precautions.
53. Arborists have also been assigned to check on every major tree on campus to
determine the risks and further necessary steps will be taken accordingly, based
on the expert findings and consultations.
54. The same goes for roofing maintenance and other potential hazards as a result of
the recent strong winds and storms, and extra precautions will be taken.
We are nearing the first half of 2024, and the road ahead remains challenging yet
rewarding. We must continue to double our efforts to maintain our momentum and to
strive for the best for the university.
The best is yet to come.
Thank you
