not only serving as the hub and provider of top talents, knowledge and research

4. For this to happen, our current practices and systems cannot continue in their
present form.

to universities to implement needed transformations and directions, UM will set
the pace in being a good role model for our historical pride in leading national

have prevented us from achieving the best outcome for the country. “
14. For us to be ahead nationally and globally, time is of the essence. We must be
strategic and wise in creating the best for the country and for humanity. This
includes creating new courses and research focus areas on key areas of great
importance to the country and the world in medical, science and energy fields.
15. For this to happen, the current supporting system will be overhauled and
revamped. Our staff, both academic and non-academic, will also undergo great
transformation in capabilities, mindset and readiness to embrace this critical
change and for UM to be the forerunner.
16. UM must, and will be seen, as the leading institution in steering the country in its
global agenda and standing.
I want to shift gears to the issue of our great teaching hospital, UMMC, or PPUM.
PPUM has been our pride and legacy, serving the people and the nation for decades.
It remains the best and the biggest teaching hospital in the country with state of
the art physical medical assets and human capital, from the best doctors to various
achievements in the medical field.
17. The management will ensure that UM and PPUM are in the same entity, and
PPUM is very much our own entity in UM.
18. I give all my appreciation and credit to our incredible talents and staff in PPUM
whether they are specialists, doctors, and all medical and non medical personnel
who have been unwavering in your services, dedication and contributions to the
patients and to the university and the nation as a whole. You have been a stellar
example of our UM pride.
19. However, I want to remind all others that have been underperforming in PPUM
who have not been serving their full needed contributions and discipline.
